Song Cards

At the top of each Song Card is a paraphrased song title (to paraphrase something is to restate its meaning using other words). In the middle of the card, there are two hints in case you get stuck. At the bottom of the card is the Song Title.

Reference Card

On the Game Reference card, you will see how easy it is to score the game. Once you solve the Paraphrase and guess the Song Title, you earn extra points if you can name the artist and/or sing the song. If you need help, then you will be given hints but you will lose points. You have to solve the Paraphrase to get any extra points!

Game Play is easy. Choose how many rounds you want to play and each team takes a turn each round. Keep score on the table and total the scores at the end of the game!

Rachel Palmer - Creator
I like to refer to myself as “the accidental designer” because although I do enjoy board games, I had never considered creating one - that is, until Christmas 2014 when I needed to come up with a unique idea for a gift exchange. The only rule: It had to be completely homemade. And, I had about three weeks to get it done. The cousin, whose name I had drawn for the exchange that year, is a self-taught musician; combine that with the fact that I’ve always been a huge “word nerd,” and an idea began to form. I would combine some creative wordplay with the best decade of music EVER (feel free to disagree, but you’d be wrong), and make a game out of it! By the weekend of the party, I had come up with the very first version of 80s Paraphrase (we added the tagline “Songs in Other Words” later … credit goes to my Dad for that one!). That first game may not have been much to look at as far as professional prototypes go, but the music-themed stickers on the box were pretty fun!  As they say, “We’ve come a long way, baby!” Special thanks to the team at Flatworks Gaming for their expertise in taking it to the next level.

It has been a pretty incredible journey since first introducing my game at CinCityCon back in 2018; there, and at various conventions since, I’ve met many terrific, supportive people, some of whom have become great friends. It has been really exciting to finally see this brainchild of mine come to life and watch it bring joy to others, too. And, I can’t write this without giving a shoutout to my baby brother, Dan, for being my tech support, traveling companion and one of my biggest fans in this venture. Nobody road trips like we do!

Besides accidentally creating board games, my other hobbies include scrapbooking, reading, volunteering in Children’s Ministry at church, and teaching Zumba classes. I am a huge advocate for adoption and in 2003, my husband and I traveled to Guatemala to bring home a baby boy who, by some insane time warp, is now a college freshman. We have one other kiddo, a biological daughter who came later and completed our little family. We live in Columbus, Ohio and apparently are aspiring to be zookeepers with our three chickens, two dogs, one cat, a Leopard gecko and our most recent addition of… wait for it… a hedgehog!
